Grundy Family Veterans 2018

Dear Grundy Parents,

When Francis Scott Key wrote the “Star Spangled Banner” almost 200 years ago, he called America “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Those words are as true today as they were back then. Throughout this Nation’s history, America’s soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and coastguardsmen have bravely answered the call to defend our freedom, to aid our friends and allies, and to turn back aggressors. With Veterans Day fast approaching, we would like to honor America’s veterans for their service to our country. If you would like the veterans in your family (living or deceased) to be recognized on our website, please email the veteran’s name, relationship to your children, and branch of service to [email protected]

Example: Carl Saunders, Caleb and Joshua Saunders’ grandfather, US Navy

To view our current listing of Grundy family veterans, go to http://grundy.morton709.org/

Please join us on Friday, November 9th at 2:00 in the new Grundy gymnasium for a very special Veterans Day Ceremony. All veterans who attend the ceremony will be recognized. We encourage all staff, students, and parents to wear patriotic red, white, and blue.

Sincerely,

Christmas Winter clothing drive

Dear Grundy Parents,

During the 13th century, churches in England began the practice of placing metal boxes at their entrances during the Christmas season to collect special offerings. The money was given to the poor on December 26th, which soon became known as “Boxing Day”. In almost every English-speaking nation (except the United States), Boxing Day is one of the Christmas season’s most honored traditions. Even though Boxing Day never caught on in America, the spirit of giving to charity at Christmas time certainly did.

With Christmas just around the corner, our thoughts turn to those who are less fortunate than we are. As a community service project, we will be conducting a Christmas Winter Clothing Drive from December 10th – 20th. We are asking Grundy families to donate new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, snow pants, and snow boots. This is an excellent opportunity for our children to learn that it is better to give than to receive. We will offer winter clothing to Grundy students in need and the remainder will be donated to Mission Mart in the Field Shopping Center in Morton just in time for Christmas.

Please contact the office at 263-1421 or [email protected] if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Sincerely,

Michael J. Saunders
