My Class3rd Grade
Our goal for third grade is to work hard, yet still have fun learning. As a year spent preparing students for the upper grades, we will strive to teach independence, organization, and other helpful study skills needed to achieve success.
In third grade many new skills will be taught: cursive writing, paragraph writing, multiplication, division, fluency in reading, and grammar skills to name a few. In science we will concentrate on nutrition, space science, energy, the water cycle, and life cycles. While focusing on different communities in the world around us, we will also study our own community of Morton. Flat Stanley will also be traveling around the world with us this year, to complete our social studies curriculum.
In preparation for PARCC testing we will do a great deal of work with reading and math comprehension. Students will have to learn to write responses to stories and math problems.

Welcome to third grade!
Mrs. Jessica Gunn
Third Grade Teacher
Welcome to an exciting year of 3rd grade! This is my 9th year teaching third grade at Grundy. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Bradley University, a Master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Illinois State University, and a second Master’s in Elementary Education.
I love teaching and feel blessed to be working in a district with great students, supportive parents, and an amazing staff! My husband Nick and I live in the Morton/Groveland area. We have 3 dogs, chickens, ducks, and 2 miniature horses. We also just had a baby in February who is our world! I am very passionate about teaching and learning. I feel honored to have the opportunity to prepare students for not only the next grade level, but for life as well. My goal is to help each student reach their highest potential in a safe, structured environment. I want my students to have fun learning and love coming to school each day.

Third Grade Teacher
I am excited to be at Grundy School teaching Third Grade! This is my 30th year of teaching. I previously taught third grade and kindergarten in another district for 20 years. This is my tenth year working for Morton 709. I was the Challenge Coordinator and Teacher for two years. Then, I taught first grade at Lettie Brown for a year, and now am happy to be home as a Grundy Gator.
I attended Illinois State University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Go Redbirds! I also earned a Dual Master’s Degree in Curriculum & Instruction and Elementary Education from the American College of Education. I will also finish another Master’s Program in Early Childhood Education from the American College of Education.
I am married to Kent, and have three children. When I am not at school I enjoy traveling, especially to Colorado to spend time with my daughters. We enjoy hiking, kayaking, and bicycling! We also enjoy spending time with our pets: three dogs, two horses, and a few barn cats.
I feel privileged to be part of the Grundy Family. I strive to ensure that all of my students will be successful and meet their academic goals in a classroom that supports a community of learners and develops a love for learning. Communicating with parents is a priority for me, so be sure to check out my class web page for the class newsletter, homework, and other important information. I am looking forward to another terrific third grade year!
Mission Statement: Every child can learn and achieve in an encouraging, structured environment.
