1ST GRADE

Welcome to First Grade

Mrs. Kober
Mrs. Weyhrich

First grade is an exciting time. The children grow so much socially, as well as academically. At Grundy School, we offer two first grade options. One is a traditional one-year first grade class offered by Mrs. Kober. The other is a first-second two-year looping program offered by Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Weyhrich. Grundy has set aside 2 hours everyday to be used as our Language Arts teaching time. During this time we will work with words (which includes phonics), and in writing we will learn to write complete sentences and paragraphs. Our reading program consists of our district curriculum and guided reading which is an individualized instructional program.

Math instruction includes addition, subtraction, place value, money, time, measurement, and problem solving. Students are encouraged to memorize the basic facts up to 10. Science and Social Studies lessons introduce a variety of subjects such as weather, living things, magnets, health, and the earth.

Working as a team with parents is essential for a successful year. As one poet stated-"the child would have failed if he had worked alone for behind the parent stood the school and behind the teacher, the home."
