
Ward Grundy Elementary School is one of four K-6 elementary schools in the Morton Unit School District #709 in Morton, Illinois. Grundy is a 2-section building that currently houses 316 student, 24 certified staff members, and 20 non-certified staff members. Grundy is well known in Morton for educational excellence, active parent involvement, community service, and school spirit. Grundy offers a solid educational program including regular education, special education, speech and language, Title I math (grades 3-5), reading support (grades K-3), music education, band (grade 6), orchestra (grade 6), chorus (grades 5 and 6), physical education, library, computer lab, and gifted education (grades 4-6).
Grundy opened in 1961 and has had two additions since then. The facility includes 13 regular education classrooms, 5 support service classrooms, library, computer lab, music room, gymnasium/cafeteria, kitchen, and administrative offices. Grundy is surrounded by a beautiful campus including a hard surface playground area, 5 basketball courts, 3 tetherball poles, several pieces of playground equipment, 3 baseball/softball diamonds, 2 soccer fields, a volleyball area, shaded park benches and picnic tables. Idlewood Park and the Morton Public Pool are just a short walk from the school.
