AboutAbout the Schools

Ward Grundy Elementary School is one of four K-6 elementary schools in the Morton Unit School District #709 in Morton, Illinois.  Grundy is a 2-section building that currently houses 360 student, 25 certified staff members, and 27 non-certified staff members.  Grundy is well known in Morton for educational excellence, active parent involvement, community service, and school spirit. Grundy offers a comprehensive educational program including:

  • regular education
  • special education resource
  • speech and language therapy
  • occupational/physical therapy
  • school social work/psychological services
  • Title I math (grades 3-5)
  • reading support (grades K-2)
  • response to intervention
  • music education
  • band (grade 6)
  • orchestra (grade 6)
  • chorus (grades 5-6)
  • physical education
  • library
  • computer lab
  • Challenge (grades 4-6)

Grundy opened in 1961 and has had three additions since then (most recently in 2012).  The facility includes:

  • 14 regular education classrooms
  • 7 support service classrooms
  • library
  • computer lab
  • music room
  • science/art room
  • gymnasium/cafeteria
  • kitchen
  • administrative offices

Grundy is surrounded by a beautiful campus including:

  • 2 kickball diamonds
  • 6 foursquare courts
  • 5 basketball courts
  • 1 dodge ball court
  • 3 tetherball courts
  • 1 funnel ball court
  • 20 swings
  • 4 slides
  • several pieces of playground equipment
  • 3 backstops for baseball/softball
  • 1 soccer field
  • 1 volleyball net
  • several shaded park benches and picnic tables

Idlewood Park and the Morton Public Pool are just east of the school.
